Differences to municipal wastewater treatment in terms of legal classification, wastewater constituents and their characterization as well as planning requirements are conveyed. In this context, the internal wastewater treatment as well as the process engineering planning (basic flow diagram, process flow diagram, P&I flow diagram) are dealt with in a targeted manner. In addition, the basics of design of industrial wastewater treatment plants are taught, taking into account a variety of water treatment processes and their specific modifications to fit industrial applications: physical-chemical processes (discharge, storage/mixing/balancing tanks, oil separators, flotation, emulsion splitting, precipitation/flocculation, ion exchange, detoxification, neutralization, filtration, adsorption, oxidation, membrane treatment), and biological processes (aerobic and anaerobic processes). The acquired knowledge is deepened in home exercises. The extent of the exercises will be announced at the beginning of the semester.
