61ARC106-Drawing and Sculpture I

Dear Students,

welcome to the Course: Drawing and Sculpture.

Content:

You will learn the general acquisition of three-dimensional criteria inherent in our visual perception. You will learn about the relationship between detail and large form, the contrasts in quantity and density, composition criteria, the criteria for the perception of volume, volume deformation and volume joining and gain experience with the recognition of positive and negative volume and space, and become familiar with the basic rules of proportion theory. How do you perceive forms and how do you interpret their shape? The central question is the relationship between the perceived form and its meaning, its content and the way in which it is used.

Knowing the criteria in general for designing structures, volumes or objects is a prerequisite for designing timelessly and comprehensibly. In order to become independent of soft and subjective criteria, such as fashion or taste, it is necessary to have objective criteria.

A theoretical introduction to the topics described above will be presented in  in lectures. Examples from architecture, nature, design and science will be analyzed and reproduced in practical assignments in exercises.
