On successful completion of this module the student will be able to:
- understand the creative process of innovative product design;
- balance competing technical, commercial, socio-environmental concerns in engineering design;
- apply a methodical approach to the solution of engineering design problems;
- to identify the customer needs to be satisfied by an engineering design;
- gather design information based on the knowledge of a wide spectrum of information sources;
- generate conceptual solutions that are broad in how they accomplish their functions but are also feasible;
- make decisions to select options from a set of alternatives;
- take a design concept to an embodiment design focusing on function, form, fit, and finish;
- appreciate the tasks to be performed during the detailed design phase;
- use computational tools to aid the application of theoretical models to the quantitative design of functional components;
- communicate in a professional and scientific manner;
- work effectively and efficiently in a design team.
